Did you know that Pink Floyd released “Dark Side of the Moon” on March 1st in 1973? Well this year that date might not produce something quite so awe inspiring, but for beer drinkers in the West Midlands and the surrounding area it could prove to be almost as auspicious because there is a lot going on. Starting in Birmingham city centre our friends at the Brewdog bar are having a showcase for the 18th St. Brewery which they describe as Northwest Indiana’s second largest brewery. I have to admit it they are a new one to me, but looking on Untappd they seem quite well regarded. And then in the Jewellery Quarter Burning Soul are hosting the Birmingham CAMRA AGM at 8pm. Heading west and into the Black Country, The Old Dispensary Microbar in Oldbury is hosting a tap takeover and Meet the Brewer with Green Duck Brewery from Stourbridge. I shall also mention that 2 days later on Saturday 3rd from 12 – 4pm they are having an event in memory of Sally Rosewood who passed away recently featuring the Cider Pub of the Year 2018 Presentation, premium craft cider tasting from Halfpenny Green Cider Company, and tributes in remembrance of Sally. Check them out on @OldDispensary
Back to the Thursday 1st and a little further afield in afore-mentioned Stourbridge, there is going to be a cask vs keg tap takeover at Barbridge in Victoria Passage. Check out @Barbridge11 for details of the line up of beers.
And even further afield, but in my home town of Burton on Trent, the BCA pub the Dog Inn is having its first tap takeover of the year with welsh brewers Tiny Rebel. Unfortunately I don’t get chance to visit this pub as often as I’d like, but landlord John Mclaughlin has done a grand job at the place since taking it over imho. Check out their Facebook page for full details of what toexpect and take a look at the other 5 events they have planned for the coming months.
As if that wasn’t enough 2 days later on March 3rd the Paper Duck bar in Harborne are having a tap takeover and meet the brewer with Wylam brewery from Newcastle. Full disclosure – I do work there part time but have been a fan of these guys for a while, ever since drinking a Häxan Black Wit at BrewDog Birmingham. And look, we have now come full circle, so time to finish and just say I hope you find time to get out there and support some of these great events.
